Is grateful for his valuable remarks on the various projections of the sphere. Thinks the projection devised by JH to be well suited for isothermal lines. Has constructed a chart of the polar regions for the same purpose. Will try JH's projection.

Sends a list of the principal mountains in the United Kingdom and their altitudes. Has just returned from a tour in Ireland and Scotland; otherwise he would have replied earlier.
Received his note on the Great Pyramid when travelling in Scotland. Quoted in his reply to C. P. Smyth. Encloses a note from F. D. Wackerbarth of Uppsala. Will be sending him the volumes containing the photographs of the Sinai survey.
The volumes of the Sinai photographs will be dispatched tomorrow. The cost of the survey has been covered by subscriptions and he will forward a statement of the account later.
Asks JH's approval for naming George Williams to take charge of Sinai survey fund following death of Pierce Butler. Will ask Secretary of State for War [J. S. Pakington] to place H. S. Palmer in charge and assign draftsmen and photographers to assist. Suggests survey goals. F. W. Holland agreed to join survey party. Estimated cost of survey is £1220.
Subscriptions for Sinai survey fund are nearly complete. Survey party will embark for Alexandria aboard Ripon on 24 Oct. Will send account books to JH and R. I. Murchison. Will not need JH's astronomical instrument.
