The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Will attend R.S.L. council today to present B.A.A.S. request for £300 to support balloon ascents for meteorological research.
Regrets inability to write [obituary] memoir of François Arago for R.S.L. Anniversary Meeting.
Discusses possible recipients of Royal Medals, continuing to favor Edward Sabine.
Believes Toronto magnetic observatory should somehow be continued, at least temporarily.
Declines WP's request that JH write an obituary notice of François Arago. Agrees R.S.L. should publish such. Suggests [Charles] Wheatstone as author.
Arrangements JH has made for admission [to Mint?] for WP and some of WP's friends.
Would WP accept the presidency of the Photographic Society? Describes that society.
Compares in regard to the awarding of the R.S.L.'s Copley medal the contributions of three scientists: Friedrich Wöhler, Wilhelm Weber, and [illegible].
Discusses W. H. Fox Talbot's patent application, commenting that JH wishes all patents were abolished. Regrets that duties at the Mint and for the Cambridge University Commission have hindered JH's ability to carry out JH's responsibilities to WP.
