Called on him yesterday to tell him that [Robert?] Maconochie has a copy of a work that JH wants and he would most likely let him have it.
Has laid JH's letter about the Cape expedition before the Board. Captain J. C. Ross has arrived safely.
In her absence JH has called on her. She would like to see him when convenient to arrange a new trustee for the marriage settlement.

Hopes JH is still in England as the barometer indicates a gale. Gives some of his recent star observations. Was disappointed with the state of James South's instruments at Kensington. Met W. S. Stratford and Thomas Henderson there. William Lassell is an ingenious man.
Thanks for his paper on nebulae. Scarlet fever has been very prevalent this season. R.S.L. in financial straits. Paper on John Flamsteed has caused friction between James Ivory and the R.A.S. Government has promised financial aid to Edinburgh Observatory.
As he leads a roving life he did not receive JH's letter until a few days ago. Answers JH's problem concerning some method of measurement in his surveying.

Thanks JH for clues to interesting star 'near Eta Coronae.' Sends sketches of April [1832?] observations of nebulae.
Accepts JH's invitation to demonstrate [on 28 Aug.] CW's portable optical and acoustical experiments and the 'whirling machine.' Asks JH to supply 'an electrical machine and a good sized jar.' Encloses copy of CW's paper on Jew's harp. Will bring another paper and new 'Symphonion' for Mary Herschel.
