The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

C. E. Trevelyan has confirmed JH's recollection that HF agreed to annual salary of £100 when entering reorganized Mint.
Formal announcement of HF's nomination by Treasury to fill office of junior clerk in Mint Office vacated by [C. B.] Piers. HF is assigned to W. T. Brande in Coining department.
Junior clerk C. B. Piers resigned from Mint. Recommends Henry Finch to succeed Piers. Recalls sacrifice made by Finch and F. R. Brande when Moneyers were disbanded. Asked Lord Aberdeen [G. Hamilton-Gordon] that Mr. Hill Jr. be hired for temporary duty in Mint during coinage crisis.
Forwards request of 'Mr. M" as promised.
Reports average output of gold coinage up to 'these changes in the production of Gold.' Demand is now increasing.
Encloses draft [contract] for coinage of copper.
Encloses amended draft proclamation regarding florin for JH's approval.
Prefers that Henry Finch and Mr. Hill, Jr. be assigned to temporary positions in Mint. Send official letter to Lord Aberdeen [G. Hamilton-Gordon] about this. That leaves one patronage appointment for W. G. Hayter to fill.
Review enclosed letter from JH to Lord Aberdeen [G. Hamilton-Gordon]. Henry Finch seems willing to accept position in reorganized Mint.
