Thanks for Smith's letter of 24 May [1793]. 'Bryum' and 'Hypnum' desiderata. A specimen of 'Hypnum' is attached.

Enquires after the mosses he requested a year and a half ago and still has not received; Smith said he would send them through [James] Dickson; re-requests them and asks that they be sent via Dr Sorande of London. Assumes Smith received his three previous letters, the second dated December 1793, contained exotic plants and rare lichens; the third dated June 1794, contained his botanical analysis of the first part of "Flora Germanica", will send latter part as soon as it is printed.
Introduces Dr. Noehden; asks for specimens of 'Potentilla', 'Filago', and other plants; thanks for introduction to Dawson Turner.
Thanks for determinations; plants for Smith and Dawson Turner; sends diploma of Physical Society of Göttingen; lists of desiderata; thanks for portrait. On reverse of letter Smith has noted that he returned the specimens.
Asks if Smith received the letter and parcel dated 15 May 1814 he sent via Hayne. Encloses the same undetermined plants, for Smith's opinion, in case Smith did not receive them, for inclusion in second volume of "Flora Germanica", asks that Smith reply via [Charles] Konig.
Requests specimens of 'Potamogeton compressus', 'Potamogeton gramineus', and 'Potamogeton lanceolatus', all "English botany", and 'Verbascum virgatum' "Flora Britannica". Also desires specimens of 'Verbascum boerhavii' and 'Verbascum orbeckii' as he has doubts over their classification; observations on characters.
As thanks for Smith's "Introduction to Botany" sending copies of his essay "De Halophytis" and first part of his monograph on 'Verbascum'.
