The chemist C. F. Schönbein has invented a form of 'explosive cotton' and is looking for an opportunity to demonstrate it. JH is asking CP to help arrange matters.
Would like to see C. F. Schönbein's invention tried but has not the means to afford any assistance at the moment. Understands that Edward Sabine is to introduce Schönbein to the Master General of Ordnance, so he will be in good hands.

Does not think JH will be interested in the exploding of the mine by CP's son. Gives details of the arrangements.
