To Friedrich Krichauff1    August 1851

Lieber Krichauff!

Euer Aller Freund

[Adelaide, late August 1851]4

Dear Krichauff,

In haste I want to enquire today, whether you have received the bag with vine cuttings through Schedlich. If you can manage it, I would be pleased, if you could plant a few in my garden in Macclesfield. — I will probably be away in 3 or 4 weeks to Mount Arden to botanize,5 as I have to make collections of indigenous seed for a few gentlemen. You could assist me in the completion of this in so far, that you could collect seed in some quantity of the lovely-flowered Leguminosae etc. in the scrub of Macclesfield. I would repay you for this with a generous gift in return. — Perhaps we could arrange a journey to the Murray together after my return. — Before my departure I will send you the money to discharge my promissory note to Addiges; however I have no choice but at the same time to pay with a bill of exchange for £3 drawn on you, as I do not even know, how I am to meet my travelling expenses this summer. Also ask my leaseholders, dear Krichauff, to send me the few shillings they owe me and ask them, if they want to buy the cart and harness from me, otherwise I will have to charge them something for their use, especially as I saw, when I was up there, that it is in no way protected against the weather. — Your letter has been dispatched by overland mail to Germany. Furthermore, I would like to hear, whether my land in New Hamburg6 has suffered much from flooding, also whether it would not be possible to lease it out, even if only temporarily, to be fenced. B[...]7 Neale tells me that nearly all the land in New Hamburg has been sold, and for that reason someone might be able to use it, for instance still this year for growing potatoes. Please tell S[...], I will get him the desired books as soon as I am able to. — Addiges will move out, I expect, as soon as my debt is paid, and arrange for tenants, from whom you might be so kind and collect the rent, whenever you go to Macclesfield, and send it to me as soon as it mounts up to £1.

I believe Addiges will not require the full amount all at once, [...]. In next week's South Australian you will find an essay by me8

To you all from your friend

Ferd. Mueller.

The relatives of my tenants are looking forward to letters from them.
