Richard Congreve (1818–99)

Philosopher. Ordained 1843. Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, 1844–54. The leading proponent in England of the positivist philosophy of Auguste Comte. Supported legalisation of trades unions, Irish independence, and parliamentary reform. Member, Royal College of Physicians, 1866.
