George Claridge Druce (1850–1932)

Pharmacist and botanist. Apprenticed to a chemist in Northampton, 1866; passed pharmaceutical examinations in 1872. Founded and helped organise a local pharmaceutical society in 1871 and the Northampton Natural History Society in 1876. Set up business in Oxford in 1879. Helped found the Ashmolean Natural History Society of Oxfordshire in 1880. Published Flora of Oxfordshire (1886). Honorary MA, Oxford, 1889; MA by decree, in recognition of his efforts in restoring and publishing on the university’s herbaria, 1919. FRS 1927.
