Augustus Earle (1793–1838)

Artist and traveller. In America, 1818–24; in Australia and New Zealand, 1825–8. Returned to England in 1830. Joined HMS Beagle as artist in 1831. Left at Montevideo due to ill health; his position was taken by Conrad Martens.
