George Eden, 2d Baron Auckland, 1st earl of Auckland (1784–1849)

Statesman. Governor-general of India, 1836–42. First lord of the Admiralty, 1846–9. President of the Royal Asiatic Society, vice-president of the Horticultural and Zoological Societies of London, and a trustee of the British Museum. Succeeded as 2d baron Auckland, 1814; created earl of Auckland, 1839.
