Maria Edgeworth (1768–1849)

Novelist and educationalist. Eldest daughter of Richard Lovell Edgeworth (ODNB), and his first wife, Anna Maria Elers (1743–73). Responsible for the education of her numerous half-siblings. Published her first novel, Castle Rackrent, in 1800.
