French naturalist. Trained as a physician. Assistant to his father, the naturalist Henri Milne Edwards. Professor, school of pharmacy, Paris, 1865. Professor of zoology, Muséum d’histoire naturelle, Paris, 1876, in succession to his father; director, 1891.
