Walter Elliot (1803–87)

East India Company servant and archaeologist. Commissioner for the administration of the Northern Circars, 1845–54. Member of the council of the governor of Madras, 1854–60. Wrote articles on Indian natural history and culture. Knighted, 1866. FRS 1878.
