William George Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong of Cragside (1810–1900)

Inventor and industrialist. Pioneer in the fields of hydraulics and hydro-electricity. Inventor of the Armstrong gun. President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, 1863. Knighted, 1859; created Baron Armstrong of Cragside, 1887. FRS 1846.
