Edwin Wilkins Field (1804–71)
Lawyer, law reformer, and artist. Instrumental in the reform of laws that disadvantaged dissenters. Worked to establish artistic copyright; one of the founders of the Slade School of Art, London. Member of the committee of the fine art section of the International Exhibition, 1862. Following the outbreak of the Civil War in the United States, his correspondence with Charles Greely Loring concerning that country’s relations with Britain was published in Loring 1862.
