Charles William Wentworth Fitzwilliam, 3d Earl (1786–1857)

Politician. Whig MP for Malton, 1806; Yorkshire, 1807–30; Peterborough, 1830; Northamptonshire, 1831–3. President of the Yorkshire Philosophical Society, 1831–57; president of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, 1831. President of the Statistical Society of London three times between 1838 and 1855. Succeeded to the earldom in 1833. FRS 1811.
