Johan Georg Forchhammer (1794–1865)

Danish geologist and chemist. Became a lecturer in geology at the University of Copenhagen in 1821; professor of mineralogy and geology, 1831. Professor of chemistry and mineralogy, Polytechnic Institute, and manager of one of its two chemical laboratories. Secretary, Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, 1851–65.
