Robert Fortune (1813–80)

Traveller and botanist. Collected plants in China for the Horticultural Society, 1842–6. Curator of the Chelsea botanic garden, 1846–8. Collected plants and seeds of the tea-shrub in China for the East India Company from 1848 and wrote several books on the subject.
