Albert Bernhard Frank (1839–1900)

German botanist, plant physiologist, and mycologist. Doctorate in natural sciences, Leipzig, 1865; habilitated in botany, 1866; privat-dozent, 1866–78; professor extraordinarius, 1878–81. Professor of plant physiology, Agricultural College, Berlin, 1881. Director of the Biological Division for Agriculture and Forestry of the Imperial Department of Health, 1899. Wrote on plant pathology; known for coining the word mycorrhiza and describing the symbiotic relationship between fungus and host in many woody plant species.
