Edmund Gabriel (1821/2–62)
Diplomat. Appointed paymaster in the Royal Navy, 1842. Secretary to Commodore Foote on the west coast of Africa. Appointed arbitrator on the part of Her Majesty in the mixed British and Portuguese commission established at São Paulo de Loanda (now Luanda), Angola, under the 1842 treaty between Great Britain and Portugal for the suppression of the slave trade. Acting commissioner, 1856–9; commissioner, 1859–62. Acting consul at Loanda, 1859–60.
