John Hall Gladstone (1827–1902)
Chemist and educationalist. Studied chemistry at University College, London; PhD, University of Giessen, 1848. Member of the London School Board, 1873–94. Fullerian Professor of chemistry at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, 1874–7. Noted for papers on spectroscopy. Active in philanthropic and charitable work; an early supporter of the Young Men’s Christian Association, especially its international relationships, from 1850. FRS 1853.
