Edwin Lawrence Godkin (1831–1902)

Irish-born newspaper and magazine editor. BA, Queen’s College, Belfast, 1851. War correspondent for the London Daily News, 1854–6. Emigrated to the United States, 1856. Studied law and practised briefly in New York, 1857–9. Editor-in-chief, the Nation, 1865–81. Co-editor, New York Evening Post, 1881; editor 1883–1900.
