Gulāb Singh (d. 1857)

Raja of Kashmir. A Rajput who rose to power in the service of the Sikh leader Ranjit Singh. Although the British regarded him as unscrupulous and opportunistic, they sold him Kashmir in 1846 in return for his support during and after the Sikh Wars.
