Edmund Gurney (1847–88)
Psychical researcher and psychologist. BA, Cambridge (Trinity College), 1871; fellow of Trinity, 1872–77. Wrote on the psychology and philosophy of music, including The power of sound (1880). Founding member of the Society for Psychical Research, 1882; honorary secretary, 1883. Co-authored Phantasms of the living (1886), a study of telepathy.
