Charles Cardale Babington (1808–95)

Botanist, entomologist, and archaeologist. Involved in natural history activities at Cambridge for more than forty years; an expert on plant taxonomy. A founding member of the Cambridge Entomological Society and the Cambridge Antiquarian Society. Editor of Annals and Magazine of Natural History from 1842. Chairman, Cambrian Archaeological Association, 1855–85. Professor of botany, Cambridge University, 1861–95. FRS 1851.
