Edward Hitchcock (1793–1864)

American geologist and clergyman. Professor of chemistry and natural history, Amherst College, 1825–45; president, 1844–54; professor of geology and natural theology, 1845–64. Served on the Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont geological surveys.
