Edward Hull (1829–1917)
Irish geologist. Entered the Geological Survey of Great Britain in 1850. Worked in north Wales with Joseph Beete Jukes, and in various English counties. District surveyor, Geological Survey of Scotland, 1867–8; director of the Geological Survey of Ireland, 1869–90. Professor of geology at the Royal College of Science for Ireland, 1869–90; president of the Royal Geological Society of Ireland, 1873–5. Led an expedition to the Wadi Araba on behalf of the Palestine Exploration Fund, 1883–4. FRS 1867.
