William Jameson (1796–1873)

Scottish botanist. Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Emigrated to South America in 1820. Practised medicine in Guayaquil, Ecuador, 1822–6. Professor of chemistry, University of Quito, 1827–35, 1846–58; professor of botany, 1827–35, 1846–60. Appointed assayer of the Mint in Quito, Ecuador, 1832; director, 1861. Prepared a synopsis of the flora of Ecuador.
