Paul Alexandre René (Paul) Janet (1823–99)

French philosopher with an interest in entomology. Professor of logic, Lycée Louis le Grand, Paris, 1857–64. Professor of history of philosophy, Sorbonne, after 1864. Published Le matérialisme contemporain en Allemagne: examen du système du docteur L. Büchner (1864), in which he criticised CD’s theory of natural selection.
