Thomas Claverhill Jerdon (1811–72)

Zoologist. Joined the East India Company as assistant surgeon in the Madras service in 1835; later civil surgeon at Telicherry and major. Resigned from government service in 1868 and returned to England in 1872. Author of works on the birds and mammals of India.
