John Denison Baldwin (1809–83)

American minister and journalist. Studied theology at Yale. Minister to Congregational churches in Connecticut, 1834–49. Organiser of the Connecticut Free Soil party from about 1847. Editor of an anti-slavery newspater in Boston, Massachusetts, 1852–4. Acquired and restored to prosperity the Worcester (Mass.) Daily Spy in 1859. Republican member of Congress for the Worcester district, 1862–9.
