Samuel Joseph Mackie (1823–1902)

Geologist, palaeontologist, journalist, and antiquary. Elected fellow of the Geological Society of London, 1851; of the Society of Antiquaries of London, 1853. Editor of the Geologist, 1858–64; of the Geological and Natural History Repertory, 1865–7. Published a catalogue of British fossil sponges in 1866. Author of works on the history and topography of Folkestone, Kent.
