Charles Spence Bate (1819–89)

Dentist and scientific writer. Practised dentistry in Swansea, 1841–51, then in Plymouth. Secretary of the Plymouth Institution, 1854–60; president, 1861–2 and 1869–70. Authority on the Crustacea. FRS 1861.
