German anatomist and pathologist. MD, Berlin, 1870. Habilitated in pathological anatomy, Halle, 1879. Privat-dozent, special pathology, Breslau, 1879–81. Professor of pathological anatomy and general anatomy, Gießen, 1881–3. Professor of general pathology and pathological anatomy, Marburg, 1883–1900; Leipzig, 1900–22. Worked mainly on the problem of wound healing and inflammation as well as deformities and degenerative diseases.
