Othniel Charles Marsh (1831–99)

American palaeontologist. Studied at Phillips Academy, Andover, and at Yale College under James Dwight Dana and Benjamin Silliman Jr, graduating in 1860. MA, Sheffield Scientific School, 1862. Studied in Germany. Professor of palaeontology, Yale, 1866. An early supporter of the theory of natural selection. Identified eighty new forms of dinosaur.
