Michel Adanson (1727–1806)

French botanist. Studied the flora, fauna, geography, and peoples of Senegal, 1748–54; published L’histoire naturelle du Sénégal (1757). Spent much of the rest of his life publishing on botany and working on a comprehensive taxonomical system.
