David Masson (1822–1907)

Biographer and editor. Studied for the ministry of the Church of Scotland, University of Edinburgh, 1839–42. Worked as editor and journalist in Scotland. Professor of English literature, University College, London, 1853–65. Editor, Macmillan’s Magazine, 1858–67; Reader, spring–summer 1863. Professor of rhetoric and English literature, University of Edinburgh, 1865–1907.
