John McClelland (1800–83)

Served in the Bengal Medical Service, 1830–65. Edited the Calcutta Journal of Natural History, 1841–7. Acting superintendent of the Calcutta botanic garden, 1846–8. Investigated and published reports on the soils and mineral resources of India.
