John McKinlay (1819–72)

Explorer and land prospector. Emigrated from Scotland to New South Wales, Australia, in 1836. In 1861, led a search for the ill-fated expedition party led by Robert O’Hara Burke and William John Wills. McKinlay’s was the second recorded expedition to cross the continent from south to north.
