Herbert McLeod (1841–1923)

Studied under August Wilhelm von Hofmann at the Royal College of Chemistry. Became junior assistant there in 1858; assistant chemist, 1860. Assistant to Edward Frankland, 1865–71. Supplemented his earnings by giving lectures and undertaking translations. Appointed professor of experimental science, Royal Engineering College, Cooper’s Hill, 1871.
