Christian Erich Hermann (Hermann) von Meyer (1801–69)

German palaeontologist. Devoted himself to full-time palaeontological research, 1827–37. Entered financial administration of Bundestag, 1837; director of finances, 1863. Refused appointment as professor in the University of Göttingen in 1861, in order to retain scientific independence. Published chiefly on vertebrate palaeontology.
