Charles Augustus Murray (1806–95)

Diplomat and author. BA, Oxford, 1827. Travelled in North America, 1834–5, and wrote an account (1839). Master of Queen Victoria’s household, 1838/9–44. Consul-general in Egypt, 1846–53. Envoy and minister plenipotentiary to the Court of Persia, 1854–9. Retired from the diplomatic service in 1874. Knighted, 1866.
