Thomas Nuttall (1786–1859)

Botanist. Brought up a printer. Emigrated to the United States in 1807. Travelled in America from about 1811 to 1834; made a number of botanical discoveries. Curator of the botanic gardens and professor of natural history, Harvard University, 1825–34. Returned to England in 1842. Author of many works on North American plants.
