Frederick William Beechey (1796–1856)

Naval officer and hydrographer. Participated in exploration and surveying voyages to the Arctic, Africa, South America, and Ireland. Superintendent of the marine department of the Board of Trade, 1850–6. President of the Royal Geographical Society, 1855. FRS 1824.
