Ogden Nicholas Rood (1831–1902)
American physicist and painter. Studied physics and chemistry in Germany, 1854–8. Professor of chemistry, University of Troy, New York State, 1858; professor of physics, Columbia College, 1863. Specialised in light, optics, and colour, and also published textbooks on colour for artists. Member of the National Academy of Science, 1865; vice-president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1869.
