Scottish physician. Conservator of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, 1853. Lecturer in medicine from 1853. Appointed physician to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, 1861. Appointed chair of pathology at University of Edinburgh, 1869.
