Archibald Henry Sayce (1845–1933)

Orientalist and comparative philologist. BA, Oxford, 1869; fellow, Queen’s College, Oxford, 1869; lecturer and tutor, 1870. Ordained priest, 1870. Wrote for The Times and the New York Independent. Deputy professor of comparative philology, Oxford, 1876–90. Moved to Egypt in 1890; helped to found the Alexandria Museum, Cairo. Professor of Assyriology, Oxford, 1891–1915.
