Hermann Schaaffhausen (1816–93)

German physiologist, anatomist, and anthropologist. Studied at Bonn, 1834–7; Berlin, 1837–9. Habilitated at Bonn, 1844; professor from 1855. Published prolifically especially on anthropology; some of his works were translated into English for the Anthropological Review. A supporter of Darwinian theory.
