Henry Sidgwick (1838–1900)

Philosopher. BA, Cambridge, 1859; fellow and lecturer in classics, 1859–69; lecturer, 1869–83; Knightbridge Professor of moral philosophy, 1883–1900. Author of The methods of ethics (1874). First president of the Society for Psychical Research, 1882–5. Promoter of the higher education of women.
